Vespero "Foam" 2008 (Russia,Astrakhan')

"Russian quintet Vespero have a sound that strikes you from the opening second of their latest album, Foam. They blend world and ethnic instrumentation with western synths and guitars to create a refreshing global atmosphere. While it may not be the most original combination these days, the band keep their sound fresh with variation in rhythm and instruments throughout each track. What's more impressive is the whole album is performed live (which is nearly impossible to notice).
The album kick-starts with "Float", a teasing opener that fits nicely with the description above. It serves its purpose of introducing the listeners to the unique sounds and the beautiful vocals that they can expect more of, willing them to continue on with anticipation. The album then moves on to "Overture", and as the title suggests it serves as a rather engrossing introduction to the proceeding song, "Instruments Of The Road". Like "Float", it clocks in at over eight minutes and has a good soft to loud progression. Guitar leads the song here with percussion that helps lay the groundwork for the first half. In the second half the highlight of the album returns with the breathtaking vocals of "Tjurina Natalia". The end of the song is the usual crescendo affair, with layers upon layers of sounds cascading until the finish. While it's not an entirely original formula, it certainly doesn't serve as a distraction.
The title track and in fact the album as a whole can be summed up in a similar fashion, and I don't feel the need to repeat myself. The fact is, Vespero have a formula that they stick to and it works. But I can't help but want more from their striking sound. Overall, this is a good album and I now definitely have this band on my radar. However, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a little structural variation in their forthcoming releases."

Horizont "Portrait of the boy" (Russia,Cheboksary)

Formed in the late 70's in Cheboksary,Horizont always was a  particular appearance on the russian scene,with a too dismal avant-prog."Portrait..." have a scare majestic atmosphere.Recommended for RIO and Universe Zero maniacs.

Iverija "Pesnia o Gruzii" 1978 (USSR,Georgia)

50% of this album include original rock songs with traditional georgian style of singing and two cover versions of Uriah Heep.Another 50% it's easy pop,but  tracks like "Azimat" or "Chaguna" makes this album very interesting.Sometimes a little like turkish rock of 60's,but on georgian.

Instrumental psychedelic power-trio from my city S-Pb.(but I'm still likes call it Leningrad:))))

"...Known among local instrumental music lovers for a great deal of improvisation in their live shows, the concept behind the band is never make the same composition twice and try to do something different every time the trio get together. Their first recording jams displayed an obvious tendency to create rather moody material which stands on the sharpest edge of obscurity or epic dazzle. For a band that's only been together a short time, psyche rockers GDEVA are certainly versed! On its debut release, the band tries to explore prog-rock territories while routing the map of late-60s and early-70s psychodelia by using decrepit vintage musical equipment. Within these five jams – all recorded live-in-the-studio with no overdubs in two days – you'll find the charms. Steady bass and drums set the flow, while the guitarist (or two guitarists) rocks the improvisational waves in more gentle and intellectual manner. The players don’t try to show what they know and the dynamics are controlled carefully – they really know how to listen. Their influence may be apparent, but there’s a pleasing loose, space, and organic flow to the compositions. Urfin Djus "Collection"(Sverdlovsk)

This collection is a brilliant of soviet progressive rock!Skilfully instrumental play,not simple compositions and intelligence lyrics,sometimes musicians have a good feeling of original humor,like in wonderful ballad "Жизнь в стиле хэви метал"(Life in a heavy metal style).I think sometimes easy influence of Gentle Giant.
